I joined the Inland Revenue 19 years ago and I am currently employed by HMRC as a manager in Belfast Contact Centre.
I have been an active member of the union throughout my civil service career and this year I was re-elected to the Proud National Committee as a Regional Rep for Northern Ireland and the Proud Equality Rep on the Revenue Branch Executive Committee. I share my Proud Regional Rep role with a friend and colleague who also works in HMRC. I am also on the Irish Congress of Trade Unions LGBT Committee.
Proud and my other union roles have given me the skills and experience to play an active role in supporting and representing LGBT members and groups in the workplace and the wider community.
On a more personal note I have been with my partner for more than 15 years and we had our Civil Partnership ceremony in June 2006. My interests include foreign travel, shopping, running and music.
I would encourage members who have LGBT issues to contact me for confidential advice and support. Even if you don’t have any issues please feel free to contact me if you would like more information about Proud or local events.

I’m Gareth and am Proud to be involved with PCS in Northern Ireland.
I work in HMRC Contact Centre Belfast.
Our membership throughout Northern Ireland is growing. I can honestly say that Proud people are great! We aim to be friendly and supportive; people are always up for a bit of craic.
As well as acting as Northern Ireland regional Rep for PCS Proud I have been a volunteer for over 10 years with several local LGBT groups, primarily Queer Space.
The Queer Space web site is great for up to date information on events organised by and for the Northern Ireland Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual and Trans Community check it out at www.queerspace.org.uk
I would encourage you to get involved in PCS Proud at whatever level you want to. It’s an overused cliché but it’s very true ‘Proud is as good as you make it’.
Even though it’s now against the law, unfortunately harassment and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans workers still happens. PCS Proud is working to ensure that the law is properly implemented, we offer members practical help and advice. We also aim to support people through social activities.
I would encourage you to help make Proud relevant to you needs, we welcome new people, ideas and suggestions so get in touch and get involved.
Hope to see you soon.
Gareth
