Womens

I’ve been a civil servant with the Ministry of Justice (in all it’s forms) for almost 28 years – it seems strange to realise it’s been that long but it sort of creeps up on you! I’ve worked in various offices including the County and Crown Courts, Library Services and HR and I currently work in Corporate Equality as an HR Equality Advisor. Like many lesbians I came out late in life so have experience of coming out in the workplace and how stressful it can sometimes be.

I’ve been in the trade union since I started work but it’s only within the last 10 or so years (I forget) that I’ve become active – it all started when a colleague approached me and asked me to ‘do her a favour’ and join our BEC so that there were a few more women! I probably wouldn’t have taken it further but, like most other activists, a colleague was being badly treated – I thought ‘that’s outrageous’ and it was handbags at dawn! Since then I’ve become a member of the Women Organising in Wales (WOW) committee and the PCS Wales LGBT Forum plus the PCS MOJ LGBT Advisory Committee.  Last year I was elected as Secretary for my Branch – the MoJ Southern Wales Branch. I’ve also done training to be a mentor for new women activists in PCS Wales and have also been involved in coaching at work, so if you feel that you’d like to have a mentor or perhaps a coach then let me know.

Away from work I read a lot, listen to music and love going to the cinema and theatre. I’m a bit of a ‘gadget freak’ and have my eye on an ipad sometime and have just become the proud owner of a Nintendo 3DS…
